Biography

Marie Rarieya is a PhD student in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.  As a graduate research assistant,  her current research under Prof. Audrey Bennett and Ron Eglash focuses on examining steps towards participatory design of HIV/AIDS awareness campaign to mitigate disease pandemic in Kenya. She was previously working with World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Her research draws on her background working with International Research Institutions. She is also studying how scientific information production, circulation and knowledge management can support sustainable development in the agricultural sector. Her broader research interest is in exploring how insight from the field of science and technology studies (STS) could be used to analyse the role of Science and Technology in solving the global problems of hunger, poverty, and environmental degradation in developing countries.
